Track and Field - General Information
 
Name of Activity: Track & Field/Coed

Description of sport/activity: Interscholastic high school sport of track & field. Cooperative program with St. Anthony Village High School. Sport consists of eighteen events for both boys and girls (Twelve running events, individual and relays, and six field events.) Events are grouped into sprint events, distance events and throwing events.

Length of season: Mid March to mid June
Practice and/or meeting times: Week days from 3:15 until 5:30 during season, some Saturday morning practices typically from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Practice and/or meeting location: SLPHS red gym until weather allows to go outside to track
Competition/Performances: Maximum of 14 varsity meets per season, also have JV & 9/10 meets. One to two meets during week, occasionally on Saturday.
Eligibility requirements: Meet MSHSL and ISD #16 or ISD #282 requirements.
Average number of members: Varies from season to season (80 - 90 athletes)
Costs and/or needed equipment: Activities fees depending on school. Will need practice clothing to include sweats. Training flats required, competition spikes optional
Awards criteria & type of awards: Varsity letter award criteria available in the activities office. Certificate of Participation, conference, section, state awards
Student leadership: Team captains are selected by teammates and coaches at the end of prior season
