Change

Be prepared to observe and participate in lots of changes in your son/daughter in the next four years. You have probably already noticed a full range of emotions that accompany starting a high school experience. Some common feelings include excitement, fear, anxiety, sadness, confusion, and joy. Sometimes, all of these emotions occur within a time period of five minutes. All of these feelings are quite normal and are to be expected.

High School Success

There are three main ingredients to high school academic success:

1. Complete assignments.
2. Turn in assignments on time.
3. Attend class every day.

Parents Role in Success

You can greatly influence your son/daughter’s success in high school by following some basic steps:
  • Provide a consistent time and space for doing homework
  • Show an active interest in your child’s day at school
  • Encourage full involvement in the various activities available to help students have a complete high school experience
  • Contact teachers/counselors when you have questions or concerns
  • Provide consistent guidelines/rules to help balance your child’s social and educational growth
